Our Story
Welcome to an extraordinary safari adventure in Tanzania, where the wild comes alive under the expert guidance of John Mndolwa and his team.
Born and raised in Tanzania, John’s connection to nature began at the age of 4 during a life-changing visit to Tarangire National Park. The sight of majestic elephants, graceful zebras, and the unforgettable African sunset left an indelible mark on young John, igniting a lifelong passion for wildlife.
This early experience set John on a path of discovery.
As a young adult he pursued specialized studies at a wildlife college, immersing himself in Tanzania’s rich biodiversity. Before starting Hii Ni Afrika Safaris John worked as a Tanzanian safari guide for 15 years, during which time he honed his skills, gained invaluable experience, and became a leading expert in safari guiding.
Today, John brings his extensive expertise and passion for wildlife to every safari he leads. His intimate knowledge of Tanzania’s national parks and wildlife reserves ensures that your safari is not just a trip but an enriching journey into the wild. Whether it’s your first safari or you’re a seasoned adventurer, John’s team promises to make your Tanzanian safari unforgettable.
John’s business partner and co-founder, Swoan, hails from New York and now calls Los Angeles home. Her deep appreciation for diverse cultures has led her to immerse herself globally, spending years of her life in India, Nepal, and Haiti. Swoan's excitement for exploration now brings her to Africa, where she eagerly embraces its rich landscapes and vibrant cultures.
A self-taught photographer, Swoan’s journey began with her first published image in National Geographic Traveler, sparking a passion for storytelling through the lens. Her career in photojournalism has included work for such prestigious outlets as Reuters News Agency, the Associated Press, The New York Times and The Wall Street Journal, covering significant events and wildlife across the globe.
Swoan’s love for wildlife traces back to her childhood, nurtured by the pages of National Geographic and the television program Wild Kingdom. Early experiences at the Bronx Zoo deepened her commitment to wildlife preservation. Her adventurous spirit and dedication to understanding and preserving the world around her shine through in everything she does.
With Hii Ni Afrika Safaris' expert guides and team, you’re not just seeing Tanzania—you’re experiencing it through the eyes of those who have dedicated their lives to preserving its wonders.
